In my attempt to increase user activity and to make ad sharing possible, I just finished tweaking the bbPress plugin to turn the group forum into a blog for group admin or mod only. ( I am aware of a plugin by Brajesh, but this is more simple and future proof.)
1. Only Group admin or Mod can access the post/reply form through conditional tag
2. Banned member cannot access post or reply to topic, but they can still access the main forum.
