Communication has a liberating role. Paulo Freire was one of the main proponents of the liberating role of communication. He identified the structures that oppress and dehumanize humankind, for which he consider the ‘culture of silence.’[1] Blog is one of the new media of mass communication. And blog, through blogging can play an influential role for social change and development.

Not only that, blogging media continues to be popular among the people in the world. In blogging we can use, words, pictures, audios and videos. It includes texts in a wide variety of styles. The one aspect which brings any business as a solid foundation is the strong client base and the sense of communication between the business and client. Businesses have started experimenting with blogging and many of them like the fact that it builds some trust within the industry. Blogs can be used for personal uses, business uses or just to provide information. You can present yourself as an expert on a niche, and you can provide the general public with quality information. Once people start noticing that you are well educated in that topic, they will be more likely to consider you as an experience blogger on that niche. Some blogs only focus on opinions and rants, while others are more family friendly and try to include the reader’s opinions and thoughts. The major concept behind blogging is the communication between two different parties, the reader and writer.[2]
As for the impact blogs have on business, consider events of the now historical day in which “AppleGate” (May 16, 2007) took place. The extremely popular technology blog, Engadget, reported that the iPhone and Mac’s new OS “Leopard” would both be delayed several months (Block, 2007). And with what affect? Within six minutes of the report Apple’s market capitalization suffered a devastating hit of four billion dollars where many investors lost staggering amounts of money. Michael Arrington, of TechCrunch.com, sums up it up well speaking of the impact and future blogs in media and business—“the fact is that big blogs now have an incredible amount of power to move information quickly, and influence people more broadly than ever before. I’m not sure we (bloggers) understood quite how much influence we really had until yesterday (May 16, 2007). “AppleGate” will become an important historical footnote for the development of blogs and the evolution of the news and editorial business more generally. With power comes responsibility.”
In as much as many more people have access to Internet publishing as compared to print publishing the Internet has democratized free speech. Whether it’s a news report you disagree with or offering personal commentary on major world events, people can now speak up and offer their opinions and input through simple comments and blogging.[3]
