INTRODUCTION
This book proposes blogging as calling. As blog is a new media of mass communication, I am aware that the phrase “blogging as calling” is jarring to many modern ears. It feels fresh and seemingly odd. The main argument that follows is the role of blogging in Christian Ministry. If singing can be counted as a ministry, so, why not blogging? The reason I choose that phrase is to confront some of the underlying causes for why it would feel odd to call “blogging as calling”. My conviction is that blogging is a medium through which we can reach the goodnews to unlimited audience in different time and space. Blog is not a one way process. It is a whole way of communication. It send and receive message simultaneously. Blog is intended both for mass audience and individual. It communicate and interact in both ways. Blog is a new media of mass communication reaching millions one at a time and connecting and communicating with one person one at a time.
A blog (an abbreviated version of "web log or weblog") is the broad term applied to the online variant of the personal diary. Unlike diaries, blogs are intended to be public. Thanks to the ease with which blogs can be put online, people who have anything to say have eagerly jumped on the blogging bandwagon, making blogs a powerful social networking tool, and when combined with the power of the Internet, transcends geographical borders. Putting one's thoughts and ideas online makes it easier to find likeminded people to collaborate with.
People blog for many different reasons. Some use it truly as an online diary, detailing their lives. Some blog for fame and some for money. Some use blogs to convey a message in a more informal manner than is possible through usual mass media channels. Celebrity use the medium of blogging or micro-blogging as to update and inform about their day to day activities to their fans. Politicians use their blogs to reach out to their constituencies or organizations who reveal information about themselves that does not make it to mass media channels. Some blog to convey a message to the world, especially when other channels are not available, or when revealing information through the usual channels would prove detrimental to their existence, as in the case of Chinese bloggers.
Information put up in a blog is seen as more sincere since it is shown of all the trappings of a mass media presentation. This helps build a rapport with the targeted audience, which would probably explain why organizations encourage their employees to blog. Of course, with strict limits on what can be put online.[1]
This book is intended to help Christians to understand the meaning, purpose and scope of blogging and to introduce them to the world of blogging. It is also my sincere desire to highlight blogging as a medium for Christian communication and to present blogging as a calling. This book will unveil what it takes in blogging in general, and what it takes in Christian blogging in particular. This book also focus on the importance of ethics and issues surrounding blogging. It is my intense pleasure to highlight the need for and acquire skills of blogging for Christian ministry.
I pray that he will use this book to make himself known and treasured and obeyed as the only Savior from our sin and the only Sovereign over the world.
